NEWS & EVENTS: Awards

Golds from CWSA Best Value

We are proud to announce that we have picked up gold awards from CWSA, the most biggest wine and spirit awards in China. We have won Double Gold for its Matahiwi Pinot Gris 2015 and Mt. Hector Sauvignon Blanc 2015, and also a Gold for Matahiwi Sauvignon Blanc 2015.

As a family owned company with a small dedicated team our goal is to enhance the pure natural flavours from the fruit and the vineyard.  To see results like these shows the hard work is paying off!

Our Estate Sauvingnon Blanc picks up Gold and a Top 50 spot!

We are very happy to announce that we have been named in the New World Wine Awards Top 50 wines!

Our Matahiwi Estate 2014 Sauvignon Blanc was the only one outside of the Marlborough/Nelson region. Great recognition we are happy to bask in! As New World said “Very pretty floral and pineapple aromas, the taste is ripe, textural and juicy. A food friendly wine from just north of Wellington and a brilliant accompaniment to watching a rerun of James Bond movies!”

Our Estate sauvignon shines in China’s biggest and most prestigious wine and spirits competition!

The Matahiwi Estate Sauvignon Blanc 2013 has just been awarded with a Gold medal at the CWSA Best Value competition. What a great accolade.

The wine triumphed in the blind tasting alongside the most famous brands in the world including Penfolds, Robert Mondovi, Astoria, Osborne, Wolf Blass, and 4,350 wine and spirits from 35 countries.

This news has been a very pleasant surprise and we are thrilled.

Another Gold for Holly!

Our Matahiwi Estate ‘Holly’ Sauvignon Blanc 2011 has been awarded ‘Pure Gold’ at the 2013 Bragato Wine Awards.

Held each year as part of the Romeo Bragato Conference, growers and viticulturists from around New Zealand are recognised for their viticultural excellence – the foundation of making wines of true quality.  495 wine entries resulted in 51 Gold, 107 Silver and 181 Bronze Medals being awarded.

The Holly wines are special. They are different. They have strong character and personality, just like Holly, the daughter of Alastair Scott. Produced in limited quantities, these wines are individual in style.

Holly wins again!

The International Wine Challenge results have been announced this week and Holly has again been our star.  Our Matahiwi ‘Holly’ Pinot Noir 2009 picked up a Silver medal.  The judges tasting notes included a pungent strawberries and cream nose and noted the wine was ageing nicely with a cherry fruit mellow finish.  Get in quick to order before we sell out!

Our Matahiwi ‘Holly’ Sauvignon Blanc 2011 also picked up a Bronze medal. The judges tasting notes picked up a creamy toasty oak style with good length and a complex savoury finish. We agree!

In its 30th year, the International Wine Challenge is accepted as the world’s finest and most meticulously judged competition. The IWC assesses every wine ‘blind’ and judges each for its faithfulness to style, region and vintage. Each medal winning wine is tasted on at least three separate occasions by a minimum of 10 different judges. Awards include medals (Gold, Silver, Bronze) and Commended awards.

4 stars from Dish Magazine

For the latest Dish Tasting Panel three judges blind-tasted 119 chardonnays from around the country. We are pleased to say that the Matahiwi Holly Chardonnay 2011 was awarded 4 Stars! They have described the wine as a young, toasty, exciting style, with concentrated, cleansing melon and stonefruit and an attractive, nutty palate appeal.
