Our People

Alastair Scott

Alastair had a life-long dream to own his own winery and produce award-winning New Zealand wines. On returning home from working and living overseas, he made that dream a reality.

Alastair has fond memories of the Wairarapa from his childhood, and so there was no question where he would begin his search for the best area to produce world class Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc.

Alastair’s passion to produce award-winning wines that capture the characters and flavours of the Wairarapa is now his business. Alastair is involved in the winery’s strategic development and shares a hands-on role in expanding the export markets.

“I dreamt about owning my own vineyard – I now dream about sharing that vineyard’s wines with the world. My team and I would like to work with buyers to market Matahiwi Estate’s wines home and abroad.”

Miles Dinneen

Miles Dinneen is originally from Hawkes Bay and has been in the wine industry for more than twenty years. As winemaker, he has received many high-profile accolades including the Six Nations Wine Awards Best Red Blend (2016), Best New Zealand Chardonnay (Decanter World Wine Awards, 2016), Best New Zealand Red Wine (International Wine Challenge, 2014) and Best NZ Red Varietal (Decanter World Wine Awards, 2013). And most recently the trophy from IWC for the best New Zealand and also International Syrah!

When not making wine, he enjoys spending time with his wife and two teenagers, painting, hunting, hiking and travelling.

Fleur Nicol

Fleur is in charge of Sales and Marketing. Before starting with Matahiwi her wine knowledge was purely consumer based! She deals with all customers from export to local. You will meet Fleur at local tastings and events, make sure you come and say hi!

When she is not selling wine, Fleur spends her time with her young family and sampling competitors’ products…

Karina Southey

Karina is our vineyard manager, born and bred in the Wairarapa. She loves being out in the vines, whatever the weather.

She is also keen on tramping in the Tararua ranges including heading up Mt Hector and Mt Holdsworth!

Robyn Noble-Campbell

Robyn is the friendly face you will meet at trade shows or our events. In addition, she is our logistics and marketing guru, looking after exports and accounts, as well as local customers.

Outside of work Robyn spends most her time supporting a houseful of busy teenagers.
