Matahiwi EstateMatahiwi Reserve Wairarapa Chardonnay2022

Lovely and fresh elderflower on the nose, melon and stonefruit are enhanced with a little smoky oak and fresh bread aromas. The palate is filled with ripe nectarine, lemon, butter, which is underpinned with a fine mineral thread. This wine is great with a variety of food, fresh fish and lemongrass, or a rich chicken dish being a few favourites.

Vineyard

The fruit for this wine was sourced from the Wairarapa, planted on beautiful free draining terraces of the Ruamahanga river. Planted in Clones 15,95 and Mendoza and surrounded with sunny days and cool nights, making lovely ripe chardonnay fruit.

Winemaking

Picked at optimum ripeness and strong fruit character, it was then slowly pressed to barrels and tanks with some juice solids retained. Fermentation occurred with selected yeasts, including wild, and the wines aged on full lees, going through Malolactic fermentation in early spring. Aging for 10 months.
